Xform
To create a new Xform (also called null or empty) go to the Properties Panel of the Scene, and in the Outliner, click the Add Button, then click Xform:

Xform are non renderable object that contain a transformation matrix. They are useful for example to move multiple objects at once. In fact, when a Scene is linked to another Scene, an Xform is created to help move the entire linked scene!
